How To Build Your Social Media Resume

by | May 15, 2024 | Uncategorized | 0 comments

A social media resume refers to a summary of online platforms that an individual uses to present themselves, their personality, and their qualifications.

This resume can include aiding in getting jobs in which social media management is a big factor, in getting a social media influencer position, or in building your own company’s social media presence.

Here are qualifications to add in order to build a better social media resume:

  • Highlight writing skills
  • Cohesive design
  • Public speaking skills
  • Customer service and fast replies
  • Know how to process analytics
  • Brand awareness and marketing

Let’s start with how to incorporate these skills into your social media resume.

Writing Skills

The majority of social media posts include some sort of writing. Whether that be captions for posts or text within the actual post, writing is a crucial part of the social media process.

That means your posts must be effective and concise. The text must be worth reading, which includes being clear and engaging. Having an on-message text relating to your post or within the post makes it easier for the viewer to listen.

A good writing copy includes the use of correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation in the text.

Using refined writing skills and understanding a company’s “voice” will enhance your social media resume. Employing skills with consistency, intelligence, and the occasional use of humor will make your resume the perfect candidate.

Have a Cohesive Design

Having a cohesive design conveys an identity of being organized and put together. The visual element of your social media resume makes a big difference in being considered for a job.

Most social media posts include text, images, and videos. Even the smallest element of text goes into the overall look of the post. Elements of text include the color, size, font, alignment, and in some cases it includes emojis or other symbols.

Incorporating these elements into your design of text will make the visual dimension of your social media post clearer, more engaging, and more effective in its message.

A cohesive design in your social media and your social media resume works well for content marketing, creativity, detail orienting, digital marketing, ad designs, media creation, and content creation.

A way to include cohesive design in your social media resume explained by text is by saying “Detail-oriented graphic design professional with photo editing past and social media platforms ad experience”.

Include Public Speaking Skills

There is much more public speaking on social media than people often understand. With the popularity of videos and live videos rising on social media platforms, public speaking is being incorporated in the social media presence.

This might just be the way best way to engage with your audience. It puts a live human face to the posts and makes the account seem more real to the audience. The effects are only positive in this instance.

If you plan to be the main character in your social media video post or the live video, you must be comfortable and well-seen in the public eye.

Some examples of public speaking skills that you would want to include are communication, entrepreneurship, interpersonal skills, active listening skills, motivation, oral communication, passion, and management leading skills.

All of these skills are good to put on your social media resume to highlight public speaking expertise.

Customer Service and Timely Replies

Social media is not just a place for you to get you message out, it is also a place for you to listen.

You can use your social media channels as a way to engage in dialogue, receive constructive feedback, and address any concerns that may arise.

If you work for a social media business, this category of work typically falls under the heading of customer service.

A great way to explain customer service skills on your social media resume would be to call it community engagement.

Either way, you must be open-minded, diligent in responding, and genuinely interested in what your visitors on your social media platform or work platform have to say to you through those connections.

Being an active listener and timely responder will more greatly intensify your social media customer service skills.

Categories in customer service for social media include communities, customer relations, engagement, interest relations, networking, relationship building, responsiveness, and social sharing.

A great thing to highlight on your social media resume when it comes to customer service is if you have previously earned a fast response rate recognition and average or higher resolution recognition.

Processing Analytics

Analytics give a way to measure the performance of posts, tweets, and other content on social media.

There is public information such as shares, likes, streams, and comments. There is also private information that only the poster, meaning you, can see.

Analytics help you find out what works the best for the message you are trying to get out.

With this information, you can tweak your topics that you post about, the format that you use, and even find out what time of day to post in order to maximize impact and engagement. With this, your reach could be to a wider audience.

These analytics do not display the whole story. You should have some knowledge on behavioral psychology in order to interpret the analytics in a useful way.

This will all help make sense of the big picture. With background knowledge, you can create a good guess on why a post is doing well and adjust certain social media posts accordingly.

Analysis includes analytics, campaign tracking, competitive analysis, data analysis, social media platforms insights, monitoring, ranking, reporting, and research. Analysis also includes trend spotting.

Brand Awareness and Marketing

Being aware of the brand that your social media resume is being created for is a big step in being successful.

You must know what the brand portrays, what their message is, and what the brand stands for.

Once you figure this out, use it to your advantage and incorporate those ideals into your own social media.

This starts to make your resume the perfect candidate.

What social media profile should I put in my resume?

The obvious profile is to put your LinkedIn because that will be the most professional. This social media platform demonstrates that you are modern and that you understand branding.

Marketing shows up in the majority of jobs in the modern day and by demonstrating that you understand personal branding you’ll have a great leg up on the other candidates.

Your LinkedIn profile is not enough. Your profile needs to be in the best shape and optimized. Your profile picture should be proper and professional.

There should be a well-written summary of your experience, and a comprehensive work-experience section. That is just the bare minimum of what should be present in your social media LinkedIn profile.

What social media profiles should you be more careful when adding to your social media profile?

Facebook and Instagram are some of the most private, personal, and yet public social media platforms that a person has.

Taking this into consideration, you must try to think if these profiles would have a direct connection for what you are applying for or not.

If there is a direct connection, them go ahead and add the profiles to your resume. It can only enhance your resume to the person reviewing it. If there is not direct connection, then we recommend leaving these social media profiles off of your resume.

It’s then better to leave the personal items off of your resume.
